Erika Barrero is an Outreach Worker who’s been with Street Smart since September 2014. Erika is a Certified Teacher who has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. STREET SMART, Somerset Home's street outreach program, is funded by a federal grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and by the state Department of Children and Families. The street outreach program is targeted to adolescents and young adults between the ages of 13-21 who are living on the street or in other unsafe environments and are at-risk of sexual abuse and or exploitation in Somerset, Essex, Bergen, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, and Union counties.
Street Smart reaches out to homeless youth in central and northern New Jersey. Teams of outreach counselors offer assistance and services during afternoon and evening hours and are also available in emergency situations.
