THANK YOU to the Community Chest of Leonia!

The membership of the  Rotary  Club of the Palisades is delighted to receive the Community Chest of Leonia grant for 2016-17 in the amount of $1000 for the Weekend Snack Pack Program (WSPP).  This grant helps the students of the Leonia and Edgewater public schools. Simply having enough food in the house is vital to every child and family. We thank and acknowledge the Community Chest of Leonia on behalf of the children and families receiving these supplemental food packs. They are the real recipients of this support.

During  the school year, Palisades Rotary provided 99 weekend snack packs weekly to school children in need of additional nutritious food in their homes over the weekend. Snack packs contain the following items:

  • 2% milk box, 8 ounces, non-flavored, long life
  • Cold cereal, 1 individual serving size box, no chocolate or nuts
  • Fruit, 4 ounce can – peaches or mixed
  • 100% Juice box, 6.75 ounces, apple preferred
  • Chicken with rice or ravioli, 7.25 ounces, microwaveable bowl
  • Macaroni and cheese, 7.25 oz
  • Nutri-Grain snack bar, 1.3 ounce, apple flavor, no chocolate or nuts

The Weekend Snack Pack Program is provided in partnership with the Center for Food Action. With the help of CFA all food is purchased in bulk and stored until the packs are assembled. This year’s cost for the 99 children  is $7000.

Annually, Palisades Rotary, hosts Oktoberfest as our major Weekend Snack Pack Program fundraiser. Oktoberfest 2017 will be held on September 23, 2017. Mark your calendars! Plan to volunteer! Join us for a wonderful community time together and help support our school children!
