This is a project in the Dominican Republic where dentists treat school children, and educate students and their families on the importance of dental hygiene. Project Zero Cavities began as a project of Rotarian Dr. Eugenio de Jesus, a dentist in the Dominican Republic who saw an opportunity to serve the community. In the poor, rural areas around the city of Bonao, families have no access to dental care. Poor dental hygiene from a young age leads to medical issues and further economic instability.

Project Zero Cavities takes dental services to the schools. Dr. Eugenio de Jesus and his staff examine and clean students’ teeth and teach the students and their families about dental hygiene. The dentists donate their time and skill. Rotary Clubs in the US raise the money needed to purchase the portable dental equipment and supplies. Once all students at a school have been treated, the project moves on to another school.
